Gov. Otti Welcomes Investors for $145 Million Solar Manufacturing Plant

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has expressed delight at receiving a delegation of investors led by Dr. Oko Jaja, alongside Mr. Dennis Madu Nwakanma, Chief Executive Officer of MD Nwakanma Nigeria Limited, at the Government House.
In a post on his Facebook page, Governor Otti disclosed that Dr. Jaja briefed him on the significant progress made toward the establishment of a $145 million solar manufacturing plant at Umuelele, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, in partnership with Chinese investors.
The governor described the project’s advancement to the Final Investment Decision (FID) stage as a major milestone and a strong endorsement of the state’s investment climate.
“I am delighted that the project has reached the Final Investment Decision stage. This is a resounding vote of confidence in the improving business environment we are building in Abia State. It further validates our vision of making our state a preferred destination for local and international investment,” Otti stated.
Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a conducive business environment by providing the necessary support to ensure investments are secure and businesses thrive.
He noted that the state government had fulfilled all requirements to make the project site available and remains fully prepared to facilitate the successful implementation of the investment.
According to him, the project extends beyond financial investment, as it is expected to create employment opportunities for young people, promote skills development, stimulate economic activities, enhance technology transfer, and contribute significantly to the state’s economic growth and prosperity.
The governor commended Dr. Jaja, the investor group, and MD Nwakanma Nigeria Limited for their confidence in Abia State, describing the project as a landmark investment that aligns with the state’s industrialisation and renewable energy agenda.
“I am particularly encouraged that the first tranche of funding is expected by September 2026, with factory construction projected to commence before the end of the same month.
“I am also pleased that young Abians are already being trained in solar installation and related technologies, with plans for selected workers to receive advanced training in China once operations begin,” he added.
The proposed solar manufacturing plant is expected to strengthen Abia State’s position in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector while attracting additional investments, expanding local manufacturing capacity, and creating sustainable economic opportunities for residents.
