APC Moves to End Anambra Crisis, Reconciliation Committee Warns Against Disrupting Peace Process

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Anambra State Fact-Finding and Reconciliation Committee, Dr. Ben Nwoye, on Tuesday asserted the committee’s authority as it commenced a stakeholders’ meeting in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
Other members of the committee include the APC National Woman Leader, Dr. Mary Alile Idele; Deputy National Secretary, Prof. Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana (SAN); National Legal Adviser, Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia; and the National Leader of Persons with Disabilities, Hon. Tolu Bankole.
The committee is in Anambra State to address the lingering leadership crisis within the party and facilitate reconciliation among aggrieved stakeholders ahead of future political activities.
Addressing party members at the meeting, Dr. Nwoye warned that the committee would not tolerate any attempt to disrupt the peace process.
“Any person who attempts to create confusion or disrupt this meeting will be shown the way out of this hall. Forget the suit I am wearing; we cannot be intimidated by anybody here,” he declared.
He emphasized that the committee was not acting on behalf of any individual or faction but was constituted by the national leadership of the party to restore unity in the Anambra APC.
“We are not here on the sponsorship of any individual or group. We are here because there is a genuine desire to restore peace in the APC in Anambra State. Anyone who behaves like a thug will be treated accordingly. We cannot be intimidated. We are here to make peace, not to wage war,” he said.
According to him, the committee met in Abuja before resolving to visit Anambra State to engage party stakeholders directly and identify practical solutions to the crisis.
He stressed that the committee chose dialogue over confrontation, expressing optimism that a united APC would be better positioned for future electoral contests, including the 2027 general elections.
Dr. Nwoye further lamented that Anambra State currently lacks adequate representation at the federal level, attributing the situation partly to the prolonged internal divisions within the party.
He urged all aggrieved members to sheathe their swords, embrace reconciliation, and work collectively for the party’s success.
He maintained that party discipline remained non-negotiable.
“Every member must obey the party’s constitution, rules, and regulations. Membership of the APC is voluntary. I have left the APC before and returned on my own. Anyone who feels uncomfortable with the party’s rules also has the right to leave. However, while you remain a member, you must abide by the party’s constitution,” he stated.
Dr. Nwoye also appealed to party leaders to strengthen internal consultation, acknowledge past mistakes where necessary, and work toward lasting reconciliation.
He disclosed that the committee had identified several issues fueling the crisis, including the alleged removal of elected party officials at various levels, the substitution of candidates who emerged from party primaries with individuals who did not participate in the primaries, the frequent resort to litigation without exhausting the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms, and the alleged suspension or expulsion of party leaders and members without fair hearing.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, APC National Leader of Persons with Disabilities, Hon. Tolu Bankole, said the committee’s assignment was to foster lasting peace within the party.
“We are here simply to listen to everyone and give all stakeholders the opportunity to express their grievances. At the end of this exercise, we hope to return with recommendations that will bring lasting peace and strengthen the APC in Anambra State for the benefit of all concerned,” he said.
Also speaking, the APC National Woman Leader, Dr. Mary Alile Idele, appealed to aggrieved members to embrace reconciliation, stressing that the committee’s mission was one of peace rather than conflict.
According to her, no political party can make meaningful progress if it remains divided.
“We need to come together. Whether we like it or not, the party is supreme. We must unite and work together to achieve electoral success. We know that Anambra has not enjoyed adequate representation at the national level because there has been no peace within the party. I sincerely hope this fact-finding mission will produce a peaceful resolution. I believe that within the next two weeks, we will begin to see solutions to our challenges,” she said.
The Chairman of the APC in Anambra State, Senator Emma Anosike, welcomed the committee and expressed appreciation to the national leadership for intervening in the state’s affairs.
He pledged to run an inclusive administration that would accommodate all interests within the party, including aggrieved members.
Senator Anosike assured stakeholders that he would carry everyone along in rebuilding the APC in Anambra State, expressing confidence that a united party would be well-positioned to achieve victory in the 2027 general elections.
