Family Surprises Retired ACP Vendy Emenike with Surprise Birthday in Awka

The family of retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vendy Emenike on Sunday organised a surprise birthday celebration in his honour in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

Beyond marking his birthday, the event was also dedicated to celebrating his meritorious service in the Nigeria Police Force and his retirement in good health, strength, and sound mind.
ACP Emenike retired a few years ago after a distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force, where he served in different formations across the country with diligence and integrity before attaining the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Speaking during the event, his wife, Mrs. Christina Emenike, expressed excitement over the successful surprise, explaining that the celebration was organised in recognition of her husband’s sacrifices and unwavering commitment to his family.

According to her, the family deliberately kept the birthday celebration a secret because her husband does not believe in elaborate birthday parties or public celebrations.
“He is a very reserved and quiet man. He does not like parties, so we had to keep everything to ourselves until today,” she said.

Mrs. Emenike described her husband as a caring father, loving husband, and committed family man who has always placed the welfare of his family above his personal interests.
“We thank God for his life and for all his care. He has always cared for us and he deserves to be celebrated. He sacrificed so much for the family and for other people to be happy. He is our ATM, our bank, and our everything. He is always there for us. He is a caring father and husband. If there is life after this one, I will still marry him,” she said.
Also speaking, the couple’s first son, Mr. Chidera Emenike, described his father as the pillar of the family, noting that the values and discipline he instilled in his children continue to sustain them.
“My father is everything to us. His name commands respect wherever I go. Because of my father, I am welcomed and celebrated wherever I find myself. I am proud of him for raising us with good values, discipline, and virtue.
“He fought many battles for the family. If not for God’s grace, he could have lost his life in the course of those sacrifices,” he said.
According to him, his father started carrying family responsibilities at the age of 16 by taking care of his siblings, a sacrifice that shaped the man he became.
He described his father as a man of uncommon sacrifice and prayed that God would grant him many more years to enjoy the fruits of his labour.
“I learnt how to pray through my father because he is always praying. He taught us to depend on God in everything,” he added.

The second son, Mr. Chima Emenike, said his father ensured that his children enjoyed opportunities and privileges he never had while growing up.
“Our father made sure we enjoyed all the things he missed in life. We are proud of him and we pray that God will give him many more years to enjoy the rewards of all his sacrifices,” he said.
A retired Superintendent of Police, Remy Okeaku, described ACP Emenike as a man of divine grace whose life and career reflected God’s favour.
According to him, Emenike consistently succeeded where many others failed.
“He is full of God’s grace. Whatever he did prospered. He hardly needed a second attempt before succeeding. His quietness and silence should never be mistaken for weakness or wickedness. He is simply a humble and disciplined man,” Okeaku said.
The celebrant, ACP Vendy Emenike, had arrived at the venue believing he had been invited to teach from the Bible during a Christian gathering.
Unknown to him, his family had planned a surprise birthday celebration.
On entering the hall and seeing banners announcing his birthday, he became visibly confused and momentarily wondered if he was in the right place. However, he managed to compose himself as guests were already seated.
His wife had earlier instructed everyone invited not to disclose the surprise to him, insisting that the event was organised solely to celebrate his sacrifices and commitment to the family.
Speaking after recovering from the surprise, ACP Emenike admitted that he would not have attended if he had known the real purpose of the gathering.
“They gave me a Bible passage and told me I would be teaching during the gathering. I came prepared for that, only to discover that I was the one being celebrated today. I never imagined this”he said.
He thanked God for preserving him throughout his career in the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that he trained his children without depending on bribes or proceeds from corruption.
“I thank God for my successful service in the Nigeria Police Force. I never used bribe money to train my children. I never engaged in anything that would later bring problems to my family or affect my children after my retirement.
“I am proud that I completed my service with a clean record and without bringing danger or disgrace upon my family,” he stated.
Reiterating his earlier reaction to the surprise, he added, “If I had known this birthday celebration was organised for me, I probably would not have come.”
He urged everyone to seek God’s guidance in whatever they do, stressing that a life built on integrity and the fear of God always brings lasting peace and fulfilment.
As the celebration progressed, ACP Emenike became visibly relaxed and joyful. He expressed gratitude to everyone who came to honour him and prayed that just as they had celebrated him, God and humanity would also celebrate them in their own seasons.
