The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter, has concluded plans to hold its maiden Sports Week programme.

Chimezie Patrick Anaso, Chairman of SWAN, Anambra State Chapter, disclosed this while speaking on the forthcoming maiden SWAN Sports Week on Monday.

The Sports Week, with the theme, “Sports for Peace and Economic Empowerment,” is scheduled to hold at the Cosmilla Hotel and Suites Sports Arena, Awka, on August 20 and 21.

According to Anaso, the event will feature a five-a-side football competition, table tennis, ludo, and draughts.

Anaso said the Sports Week was designed to promote physical fitness, mental alertness, and healthy relaxation among journalists and members of other organisations participating in the event.

“The 2026 SWAN Sports Week is to provide an opportunity for media practitioners, especially sports journalists, to celebrate themselves after a long period of reporting and celebrating others.

He called on media professionals to engage in sporting activities to enhance their physical and mental well-being.

“On the first day, we are going to compete in table tennis, ludo, and draughts between SWAN members and our friends, while on the second day, we will step it up to five-a-side cage football medley.

“We want to specially appreciate our major partners, Cosmilla Hotel and Suites Sports Arena, Awka, for providing the best facilities and environment for this sporting engagement.

“It will be the first and best of its kind because we have not had such in Anambra,” he said.

He called on lovers of sports, friends of the media, and prospective partners to avail themselves of the opportunity to enjoy good sports and promote their brands.
