Police Recover 2 Fabricated Pistols, Vikings-Inscribed Caps After Suspects Abandon Motorcycle in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has recovered two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with the Vikings Confraternity from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Command said security operatives recorded another significant breakthrough during a routine patrol operation conducted in collaboration with operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

According to the statement, the operatives, while on patrol along the Isuaniocha Bridge on Thursday afternoon, sighted two young men riding a black Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number.

Ikenga said that upon sighting the police team, the suspects suddenly and recklessly turned the motorcycle around in an apparent attempt to evade the operatives.

He said the suspicious manoeuvre prompted the officers to give the suspects a hot pursuit.

Ikenga explained that during the chase, the suspects lost control of the motorcycle, fell off, and abandoned it along with two slippers and a bag before fleeing into a nearby bush.

“A search of the abandoned bag subsequently led to the recovery of two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with the Vikings Confraternity,” he said.

According to him, the Command has commenced efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and establish their identities, affiliations, as well as the circumstances surrounding their possession of the recovered firearms and other items.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, said the Command remains committed to sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations and proactive policing measures aimed at disrupting criminal activities and safeguarding the lives and property of residents across the state.

The Commissioner further directed operatives to intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and ensure that the circumstances surrounding the recovered firearms and cult-related items are thoroughly investigated.
