No Retreat, No Surrender: ASUU-ABSU Chairman Mbah Vows to Sustain Strike

The Chairman of the Abia State University, Uturu Branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU-ABSU), Dr. Chidi Mbah, has vowed that the union will not suspend its ongoing strike until the university’s Union outstanding welfare and other demands are addressed.

ASUU-ABSU embarked on an industrial action on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, to press for the resolution of several outstanding issues affecting its members.

The demands include:
Non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN)/ASUU Agreement.
Irregular promotions and the controversial notional promotion policy.
Non-remittance of cooperative deductions.
Non-payment of outstanding Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) dating back to 2009.
The recall of a suspended professor and the resolution of other outstanding welfare and administrative issues.

Speaking on the industrial action, Mbah said the union would not call off the strike until the relevant authorities take concrete steps to address its demands.

He specifically stated that the ASUU-ABSU chapter would sustain the strike until the suspended professor is recalled and the union’s outstanding demands are fully addressed.

“We won’t end the strike until the suspended Abia varsity professor is recalled.” Mbah.

Mbah reiterated that the union remained committed to securing the resolution of the issues at stake, stressing that the industrial action would continue until the university authorities and relevant stakeholders respond satisfactorily to the union’s demands.

The ASUU-ABSU chairman’s position suggests that the strike may continue until there is demonstrable progress on the issues raised by the union, particularly the recall of the suspended professor and the implementation of outstanding agreements and financial obligations owed to academic staff.
