Anambra Police Neutralise 2 Suspected Armed Robbers, Kidnappers,Recover 1 AK-47

The Anambra State Police Command on Wednesday neutralised two suspected armed robbers and kidnappers during an encounter along Eziowelle Road in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command recorded another significant breakthrough in its ongoing intelligence-led operations against kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes across the state.

Ikenga said that in the early hours of Wednesday, August 19, 2026, operatives of the Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, received credible information that a group of suspected armed robbers and kidnappers had been sighted along Eziowelle Road.

He said the police operatives swiftly mobilised to the area and, upon sighting the team, the hoodlums opened fire, prompting the operatives to engage them in a gun duel.

According to him, during the ensuing encounter, two of the suspects sustained fatal gunshot injuries, while other members of the gang fled the scene with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

He added that the operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing four rounds of live ammunition, one pump-action gun and five live cartridges from the scene.

Ikenga said the Anambra State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, remained resolute in its determination to sustain intelligence-led and proactive operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.

He disclosed that the Command had commenced further investigations and intensified efforts to track down the fleeing members of the gang.

“Further developments shall be communicated accordingly,” he added.
