The good people of Anambra State will, on Thursday, September 10, 2026, receive Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on her first official visit to the state since assuming office as First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The visit is expected to further strengthen the existing cordial relationship and partnership between the Federal Government and the Anambra State Government, particularly in advancing programmes aimed at poverty reduction, economic empowerment, food security and improved livelihoods for vulnerable citizens.
According to a statement issued by the media aide to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Daniel Ezeigwe, the First Lady’s visit is expected to deepen collaboration between the two levels of government and reinforce ongoing efforts to deliver impactful interventions to residents of the state.
One of the major highlights of the visit will be the empowerment of 5,000 people under the Progressives United Against Poverty Initiative, a partnership championed by the Anambra State Government in support of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Economic Support Scheme of the President’s wife.
The statement said the empowerment programme was designed to provide beneficiaries with practical economic support and opportunities to improve their livelihoods, with particular attention to individuals and households requiring assistance to become more economically productive and self-reliant.
It further stated that another major highlight of the visit would be the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East Geopolitical Zone, which is scheduled to take place in Anambra State on the same day.
According to the statement, the programme is part of efforts under the Renewed Hope Initiative to strengthen food security and provide targeted support to vulnerable households, particularly amid growing concerns over hunger, food affordability and nutrition.
“As part of her itinerary, Senator Tinubu will also proceed to the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, where she is expected to commission key projects in the institution,” the statement added.
The First Lady’s visit comes against the backdrop of what the state government describes as a progressive partnership between the Federal Government and Anambra State, with both administrations increasingly presenting cooperation as a pathway towards shared economic development and improved welfare for citizens.
It will be recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during his last visit to Anambra State, described the relationship between the Federal Government and the state as one anchored on partnership and shared prosperity.
The President also commended the state’s development efforts under the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The President’s remarks were widely seen as an indication of the Federal Government’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with the state, despite political differences between the governing structures at the federal and state levels.
