Shanahan University Retreat: Rev.Fr. Adimike Charges Leaders to Serve with Faith, Excellence

The management and members of the Shanahan University community in Onitsha, Anambra State, have been challenged on the imperatives of good leadership and service to humanity.
The charge was given to more than 100 participants at a university retreat facilitated by the Director of Communications and Press Secretary to the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha, Rev. Fr. George Adimike.
According to Rev. Fr. George Adimike, leadership and service are hinged on service anchored in faith.
He described leadership as a call to serve, noting that people at the helm of affairs should see their positions as opportunities to serve humanity.
The retreat, which had as its theme, “Leadership and Service Anchored in Faith, Driven by Excellence,” also focused on the challenges of leadership caused by some leaders who abdicate their responsibilities to the detriment of Nigerian society.
Participants at the programme included members of the university’s management team, administrative staff and academic staff, who gathered for an intensive reflection on leadership, service, institutional development and the values required to build a university of excellence.
The retreat took place under the leadership of the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Dominic Obielosi, with Rev. Fr. Dr. Emmanuel Emenu serving as Registrar.
Facilitating the sessions, Fr. Adimike challenged the university community to see leadership not merely as a position of authority but as a responsibility rooted in service, faith, integrity and excellence.
“Leadership is a call to serve, and oftentimes, some people in leadership positions see it as an opportunity to display power without recourse to the need to interface with and galvanise human and material resources for the good of society or the establishment under their watch.”he added.
Adimike noted that such actions are not only found in political positions but also in the day-to-day activities of all and sundry.
He added that leadership has nothing to do with how high or low an individual’s office may be.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the management and staff to reflect on their individual and collective roles in shaping the institution’s identity, culture and future.
The university leadership expressed its commitment to building Shanahan University into a world-class institution within the shortest possible time, with excellence in academics, administration, research and service as key priorities.
