Award-winning Nwoke Udi Palm Wine Bar, Awka, is set to bring residents and visitors together for a three-day celebration of Igbo heritage, traditional cuisine and community spirit at its 2026 New Yam Festival, scheduled for November 6 to 8.

The festival, which celebrates yam as the king of crops in Igbo culture and honours the enduring tradition of palm wine, will offer guests an opportunity to reconnect with their cultural roots while enjoying authentic local delicacies and vibrant entertainment.

A major attraction of the event will be the free serving of freshly prepared yam accompanied by traditional delicacies, including ukpaka, red oil and utazi, giving guests a taste of the rich culinary heritage of the Igbo people.

The three-day celebration will also feature performances by multiple artists, creating an atmosphere of music, cultural expression and communal enjoyment.

On Sunday, November 8, the festival will reach its cultural climax with a performance by renowned Ogene highlight master Ausuma Malaika and his cultural group, whose energetic presentation is expected to provide an authentic showcase of Igbo music and tradition.

Speaking on the festival, the Chief Executive Officer of Nwoke Udi Palm Wine Bar, Mazi Ndubisi Eze, said the 2026 edition would maintain the high standards for which the establishment is known while offering guests an enjoyable and memorable experience.

“With the introduction of barcode payment systems for greater convenience and our team of service-oriented staff and management, customers can look forward to a seamless and memorable experience throughout the three-day ceremony,” he stated.

Eze said the festival reflects the establishment’s commitment to preserving and promoting Igbo culture and tradition through food, music and communal celebration.

By placing yam, a crop deeply rooted in the cultural identity of Igbo communities, at the centre of the celebration and pairing it with the traditional enjoyment of palm wine, the festival seeks to preserve cherished customs while making them accessible to younger generations and visitors.

The award-winning bar has invited lovers of good food, particularly those who appreciate authentic African cuisine, to participate in the festivities and experience the warmth of Igbo hospitality.

Guests are also encouraged to continue patronising Nwoke Udi Palm Wine Bar and Nnaochie Foods for their range of African dishes.

The 2026 New Yam Festival promises a blend of traditional cuisine, cultural performances and community interaction, reaffirming the role of local hospitality establishments in keeping Igbo heritage alive and creating spaces where people can celebrate their shared identity.
