YPP Slams Anambra Government Over Rising Insecurity as Gunmen Injure Five in Umunnachi

Mr. Uzu Okagbue, deputy governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) and running mate to Sir Paul Chukwuma in the upcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election scheduled for November 8, 2025, has strongly criticized the state government over its failure to address the escalating insecurity plaguing the region.
Speaking after visiting one of the five victims of a gunmen attack in his hometown of Umunnachi, Dunukofia Local Government Area, Okagbue lamented the deteriorating security situation in Anambra and accused the current administration of abdicating its primary responsibility of protecting lives and property.
“At the moment, Anambra is bleeding physically and morally because of the unchecked activities of gunmen who now operate with impunity,” he said.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday when gunmen stormed Umunnachi, firing sporadically and attacking unsuspecting residents. Five people sustained gunshot injuries, with one currently in critical condition at a local hospital.
“After a spiritually uplifting Sunday worship, still basking in the serenity of divine presence, I was abruptly pulled back into the brutal reality of our state,
“I went straight to the hospital to see our dear brother, Ifeanyichukwu Muokwue, who had undergone emergency surgery after being shot by kidnappers who laid siege to our peaceful community last night. What I saw broke me.” he stated.
Describing the scene, Okagbue further said that ,“His body, riddled with bullets, lay in excruciating pain. But even more haunting was the look in his eyes, the look of abandonment. Around him were others, victims too, each bearing the scars of a system that has failed them.”
“Gunshot wounds, shattered limbs, broken spirits, these were not just patients in a hospital ward; they were silent screams, echoing a nightmarish reality that has become all too common in Anambra.”he stated.
He went on to question the moral justification for the state’s inaction:
“I found myself asking: What exactly is the crime of Ndi Anambra? What offense have we committed to warrant this reign of blood and terror? How did a resilient people become prey in their own homeland?”he asked.
Taking direct aim at the current administration, Okagbue said:
“It is heartbreaking to admit that this is now our daily reality, armed criminals dictating how we live, while the government either watches in helpless confusion or hides behind excuses. This is not governance.”he added.
He called on Anambra voters to take decisive action in the upcoming election.
“Anambra is not just bleeding from bullets, but from betrayal, from leaders who promised security but delivered silence. We cannot afford to remain quiet.”
“The time for redemption is now. Not tomorrow. Not after another condolence visit. Now before we lose everything we are and all that we hope to be.”he stated.
