Obiukwu Foundation Unity Cup: Ekwunife Stresses Importance of Grassroots Talent in Sports Development

The Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Uche Ekwunife, has emphasized that harnessing grassroots talent is essential for sustainable sports development in Nigeria.

Speaking at the final match of the 2025 Kingsley Obiukwu Foundation Unity Cup between Warriors FC of Nnewi and Elephant FC of Osumenyi, Ekwunife described early talent discovery as a vital tool for the growth of sports, particularly football, in the country.

Presenting the trophy to the victorious Elephant FC of Osumenyi, Senator Ekwunife who also serves as the Director General of the South East Governors’ Forum praised Kingsley Obiukwu as a man deeply committed to youth development.

She noted that the Foundation, through sports, has consistently engaged with communities and empowered young people to realize their potential. Ekwunife further pledged that, if elected in November, an APC-led administration would prioritize sports development and youth empowerment across the state.
