Gender-Based Violence Can Be Eliminated if Right Actions Are Taken, Says Nonye Soludo

The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has reiterated that gender-based violence (GBV) can be eradicated from society if the right concerns are raised and decisive measures are implemented.

According to the wife of the Anambra State Governor, empowering women and girls through education, ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare, and expanding opportunities for employment and innovation are essential steps in ending gender-based violence.
Mrs. Soludo, who is also the founder of the Nonye Soludo Healthy Living Initiative, added that strengthening social institutions is central to sustaining effective advocacy and protection for vulnerable groups.

She noted that the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo recognizes the importance of these interventions in Anambra State and has already begun altering the narrative through transformative policies and programs.

The First Lady made these remarks on November 25, 2025, as Anambra State joined the global community to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Mrs. Soludo noted that events and commemorations like this serve as reminders that the fight against GBV demands more than “words and hashtags.”
According to her, “It is truly time to find practical solutions and change the narrative for good.”

She further stated that in a world where many women and girls still feel unsafe within the very institutions meant to support their growth, society must move beyond discussions and embrace practical activism.

The Governor’s wife stressed that eliminating gender-based violence should be everyone’s responsibility in homes, schools, workplaces, places of worship, and every space where human relationships exist—because every woman deserves to be protected, valued, and empowered to thrive.

Mrs. Soludo also highlighted the need to break the culture of silence among victims. She urged the public to understand that speaking out, seeking help, and reporting abuses to appropriate authorities are crucial steps in combating and ultimately defeating the scourge of gender-based violence.
