The Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Initiative for Recreating Social Values popularly known as Recreating Values Organisation has organised various skill-based competitions for children in secondary schools.
Winners at the grand finale received ₦50,000, other cash prizes, and consolation gifts.
Recreating Values Organisation was founded by a Catholic priest of the Onitsha Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Valentine Obiagwu, with the aim of transforming Africa from a third-world continent to a first-world continent through the restoration of lost societal values values considered fundamental to nation-building.
The organisation also seeks to create a new society by sensitising people to the right way of life and the value systems they need to uphold. To achieve this, members visit schools, speak to students, and distribute pamphlets, banners, and stickers free of charge to instill these values.
This year’s competition was held on November 16, 2025, at All Saints Cathedral, Knight Abbey Hall, Onitsha, Anambra State.
During the event, the organisers carefully selected schools and achievers who addressed the audience on specific issues related to the programme.
Crafts and handiwork showcased included fans, model motorcars, model houses, cardboard craft, scrap-metal designs, and fibre works.
Participants in the 19–30 age category—those who have completed secondary school but are yet to find a career path—displayed skills such as tailoring, shoemaking, carpentry, baking, auto mechanics, POP ceiling installation, tiling, and barbering.
Younger participants submitted video recordings of their projects, which were reviewed by the judges before winners were announced.
Before the presentation of cash gifts, several motivational speakers addressed the competitors, invited guests, schoolchildren, and youths. Speakers included the Chairperson of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Dr. Mrs. Vera Nwadinobi; Mr. Ifeanyi Orakwe; Hugeman of Radio Sapientia; and Macdavis Ngwa of Radio Sapientia. They emphasised the importance of acquiring skills, especially during the current period of global financial challenges.
The speakers also encouraged students not to feel discouraged if they do not gain admission into a university. They advised that learning one or two vocational skills can make them self-reliant. They further reminded the participants that their primary and secondary education equips them with the basic ability to read, write, and communicate, while university education merely deepens expertise in a chosen field.
The founder of the organisation, Rev. Fr. Valentine Obiagwu, on behalf of his team, expressed gratitude to the various schools and sponsors who supported the event. Sponsors included Crystal Garden Estate, Paradise Event Décor, De Beste Pure Water, Irish Luxe Interiors, Faithspiration Initiative, and Adonai Bakery, among others.
The high point of the event was the Value Trade Fair (a mini trade fair), followed by the presentation of gifts.
