Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union Holds General Meeting December 29
Following months of leadership crisis arising from alleged constitutional breaches by the estranged President-General of Enugwu-Agidi community, Mr. Ebuka Onuorah, the Anambra State Government—through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters led by Commissioner Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne—intervened to prevent further escalation that could endanger peace within the community. The intervention led to the arrest of the former President-General to forestall actions capable of causing unrest, which the community considers contrary to its ancestral heritage.
The Interim President-General of Enugwu-Agidi, Ozo (Chief) Kenechukwu Darlington Okoye, stated that the community had been inundated with unconstitutional and destabilizing activities aimed at undermining its values, morals, culture, and long-standing peace. He emphasized that Enugwu-Agidi people are peace-loving and would not allow the personal ambitions of any individual to disrupt the tranquility they have enjoyed for decades.
Okoye announced that, in preparation for the December 29, 2025 general election, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU), Nigeria, has elected a three-man electoral committee to conduct and supervise the election. This decision supersedes the December 16 date previously announced by Mr. Onuorah.
He explained that the resolution emerged from a meeting held on November 30, at the National Executive Council Hall of the union, attended by fourteen NEC delegates. After extensive deliberations and guided by directives from the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the NEC was mandated to select a three-man electoral committee for the upcoming general election.
Okoye expressed confidence in the process and thanked the people of Enugwu-Agidi for their unwavering support and trust. He, alongside the Secretary of EBU who also serves as Interim President-General, confirmed that voting results produced the following outcomes,:Engr. Martin Nnoli: 8 votes,Keku Ifeme: 8 votes,Pastor Ifechukwu Okafor: 7 votes,Barr. Nwagbo: 7 votes,Obuneme Onubiyi: 6 votes and Clement Nwobu: 6 votes
He explained that since two candidates secured eight votes each, they automatically scaled through. However, a tie between the two candidates who scored seven votes necessitates further action from the NEC to determine the third member of the electoral committee. He further called on Commissioner Nwabunwanne to use his office to facilitate the final selection so that the committee will officially comprise the constitutionally required three members.
Okoye expressed gratitude for the peaceful conduct witnessed during the exercise, noting that no form of violence occurred and that community members behaved responsibly throughout the process.
He also commended the union’s Legal Adviser, Barr. Justin Obuzor (Akajiugo Enugwu-Agidi), for his neutrality and professionalism, affirming that a credible three-man committee capable of conducting and supervising the December 29 election has now emerged, in line with the community’s constitution.
The Assistant Publicity Secretary of EBU, Mr. Daniel Egbuonu, also expressed satisfaction with the process, stating that the results reflected the expectations of the union.
He reiterated that six individuals were nominated while fourteen members were accredited to vote.
According to him, the tie involving the two candidates with seven votes each must be resolved by the NEC to determine the third member of the electoral committee.
Similarly, the Chief Provost of the union, Comrade Okechukwu Okam (Okenwa Enugwu-Agidi), thanked God for the successful outcome of the exercise. He affirmed that Ndi-Enugwu-Agidi have made a concrete decision on the composition of their electoral committee for the December 29 general election, in accordance with the union’s constitution.
Meanwhile, the estranged President-General, Mr. Ebuka Onuorah, has rejected the outcome of the election, describing it as unacceptable and calling for a repeat of the exercise.
The election was monitored by officials from the Anambra State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Awka.
