Security Expert Commends Governor Mbah for Equipping Forest Guards With Gadgets to Combat Kidnappers, Terrorists

Anambra-born international security expert, Amb. Dr. John Metchie, has commended the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for equipping forest security guards with sophisticated firearms and technologically advanced gadgets to combat kidnappers, bandits, and other terrorist groups operating in forested regions of the state.

Metchie also praised Governor Mbah for launching high-capacity security drones capable of providing surveillance across Enugu State and its environs.

He described the initiative as a landmark move aimed at detecting and preventing criminal activities before they escalate.

In an exclusive interview with our reporter, the security expert said Governor Mbah’s decision to train and equip forest guards with state-of-the-art security apparatus was a bold and courageous step in the right direction toward tackling criminal insurgents hiding within the state’s forests.

Metchie noted that Governor Mbah has set a new template for local security services in the Southeast and urged other governors in the region to emulate his innovative approach, particularly in the training and retraining of local security operatives such as forest guards.

The security expert, who also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s choice of defence minister, stated that the appointment of General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Minister of Defence marks a turning point in the protection of Nigeria’s territorial integrity. He expressed confidence that with the combined efforts of the new Defence Minister, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the forest guards, previously ungoverned regions of the country will now enjoy enhanced security.

Metchie emphasized that deploying forest guards is of paramount importance, noting that countries such as South Africa, the United States, and Canada effectively use forest guards to secure their wilderness areas.

He added that Governor Mbah has taken the right steps and predicted that, within the coming weeks, Enugu State will begin to reap the dividends of these security reforms.

He therefore congratulated Governor Peter Mbah for establishing and equipping forest guards and urged other Southeast governors to emulate him, rather than recruiting and arming untrained vigilante operatives—who, he warned, pose significant risks to public safety.

He also commended the Enugu State Commander-General of the forest guards for his purposeful leadership.
