It was a carnival of joy on Sunday, December 14, 2025, as hundreds of Catholic children and youths in Awka Etiti gathered at St. Joseph’s Parish, Awka Etiti, to conclude the 2025 Special Marian Apostolate.
The event, sponsored by Awka Etiti–born business mogul, Mr. Lucky Adimike, featured a variety of entertaining activities, including a quiz competition, cultural dances, and a march-past.
At the end of the competitions, St. Joseph’s Parish, Awka Etiti, emerged in first position, while St. Ann’s Parish came second.
Holy Trinity Parish secured third place, and Holy Family Parish, Awka Etiti, took fourth position.
Speaking to a Trinitas correspondent at the event, the Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Parish, Awka Etiti, Rev. Fr. Paul Ugochukwu Ihebighi, described the occasion as a joyful celebration made possible by Mr. Lucky Adimike, whom he praised for recognizing the need to promote the Catholic faith and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
He disclosed that the first phase of the programme, sponsored by the same philanthropist, took place last year. According to him, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the sponsor received the favours he had prayed for from God and consequently resolved to give back to society.
“We thank him for investing in the things of faith and in God’s kingdom, and for helping to raise children in the fear and knowledge of God,” the priest said.
The programme involved the four parishes in Awka Etiti—St. Joseph’s Parish, St. Ann’s Parish, Holy Family Parish, and Holy Trinity Parish. According to Rev. Fr. Ihebighi, the objective was to catch the children young for Christ, so that they may be firmly rooted in the faith and equipped with a strong Christian foundation that will enable them to shun idolatry throughout their lives.
“I commend the children who participated in the programme. The time and effort they invested in rehearsals, even during the rainy season, show that they are committed to something good,” he stated.
He also expressed gratitude to the parents who allowed their children to take part in the programme. “It is regrettable that some parents permit their children to attend other activities but deny them participation in church programmes. We therefore commend those parents who recognize the importance of raising their children in faith and morals,” he added.
Rev. Fr. Ihebighi further thanked the priests of the various parishes in Awka Etiti for their unalloyed support for the programme and equally appreciated all those who contributed to the preparation and training of the children.
