The incoming Executive Chairman of Edda Local Government Area, Omezua Simon Oko, has assured residents that his administration will ensure the effective grassroots implementation of the policies and programmes of Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, if elected in the forthcoming local government elections.
Oko made this pledge on Monday while addressing journalists in his hometown during celebrations marking his victory at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship Primary Election.
The APC chieftain, who emerged unopposed during the primaries, said his leadership would prioritize inclusive governance, peace, and development in line with the governor’s development agenda.
Oko, a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edda during the administration of former Governor Martin Elechi, stated that his political experience has prepared him to deliver people-oriented governance.
“As I have said before, I will run an inclusive administration where every indigene of Edda will enjoy equal rights, justice, and fair representation. Beyond that, I will faithfully cascade the policies and programmes of Governor Francis Nwifuru in line with the People’s Charter of Needs,” he said.
He said that effective governance would require the collective support of the people.
“To achieve this, I need not just your support, but your unity, commitment, and dedication to the service of Edda people,” Oko added.
The chairmanship hopeful also called on the people of Edda to embrace unity and mutual understanding, stressing that love and cooperation remain critical tools for sustainable development.
“I am committed to good governance, and that will remain my guiding principle if elected as Chairman of Edda in the August polls. I urge my people to continue to show love to one another and extend hands of fellowship regardless of differences,” he said.
Oko further commended the incumbent Chairman of Edda Local Government Area, Hon. Chima Nkumakama, for his commitment to peace and stability in the council.
“The incumbent chairman is a man of peace who has laid enduring legacies for unity and harmony in Edda. Those legacies will not be forgotten, and I will ensure they are sustained,”
Expressing gratitude to party members and supporters, Oko thanked them for entrusting him with the party’s mandate and pledged not to disappoint the people.
“I sincerely thank you all for the confidence reposed in me. By God’s grace, come August, I will not fail the people of Edda,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Chidiebere Alo emerged as the APC Chairmanship candidate for Abakaliki Local Government Area, while Osborne Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, secured the party’s ticket for Ohaozara Local Government Area.
Insideoutnews gathered that no opposition political party has so far indicated interest in fielding candidates for the local government elections, despite the release of the official election timetable.
