Otti Applauds Gregory University’s Tech Ambition at 14th Matriculation

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, has declared that Gregory University, Uturu is strategically positioned to emerge as a national hub for cutting-edge programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Security Studies, and other forward-looking disciplines shaping the global knowledge economy.
Speaking at the institution’s 14th Matriculation Ceremony, Governor Otti commended the university’s steady rise in academic excellence and its deliberate investment in emerging fields.

The ceremony formally admitted 610 new scholars into the university community.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Tertiary Education, Dr. Emeka Enyiazu, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development and quality tertiary education.
He challenged the matriculants to brace themselves for intellectual rigor and character formation, stressing that the years ahead would test their resilience, expand their horizons, and define their futures.
“You are entering a season that will stretch your capacity and sharpen your purpose,” he said .

The governor urged the students to pursue distinction rather than mediocrity.
In his address, the Chancellor, Okechukwu Gregory Ibe, Jnr., delivered a message of belonging and aspiration. “You are not just joining a university,” “You are stepping into a community that believes in your potential and is eager to see how far your ambition can take you.” he told the fresh students.
The Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Augustine Uwakwe, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Uwaoma Uche, struck a note of moral urgency.
He encouraged the new entrants to pursue academic excellence alongside entrepreneurship and innovation, warning firmly against social vices that could derail their academic journey.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Cele U. Njoku, outlined the university’s expanding global partnerships and its introduction of new programmes tailored to emerging industries.
She underscored the institution’s zero-tolerance stance on cultism, indecent dressing, and other forms of misconduct, making it clear that academic freedom at GUU is anchored on discipline and moral responsibility.
The ceremony drew an array of dignitaries including traditional rulers, clergy, and community leaders whose presence lent prestige and symbolic weight to the occasion, reinforcing the university’s growing stature within and beyond the state.
