FRSC, NITT Seal Landmark Pact to Revolutionise Nigeria’s Transport Sector

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on advanced training, capacity development, research, innovation and institutional collaboration aimed at transforming Nigeria’s transport ecosystem.
According to a statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps Headquarters, Abuja, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Osondu Ohaeri, the agreement represents a strategic move to reshape the future of Nigeria’s transport sector through enhanced professional development, research, innovation and institutional partnerships.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, signed the MoU on behalf of the FRSC, while the Director-General of NITT, Dr. Bayero Farah, signed on behalf of the institute.
Ohaeri stated that the signing of the MoU marks the beginning of a strategic partnership designed to raise professional standards, strengthen institutional capacity and position Nigeria’s transport sector as globally competitive through innovation, knowledge sharing and sustainable capacity building.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Corps Marshal described the occasion as a defining milestone in the evolution of Nigeria’s road transport sector.

He noted that the collaboration between two of the country’s foremost transport institutions demonstrates a bold commitment to developing a safer, smarter, more efficient and technology-driven transportation system.
He explained that the partnership would deepen collaboration in specialised training, transport research, technological innovation, driver education, knowledge exchange and human capital development.
According to him, the FRSC’s longstanding relationship with NITT has already produced significant achievements, but the formalisation of the partnership through the MoU opens a new era of innovation, institutional excellence and sustainable transport development.
The Corps Marshal further stated that the partnership would significantly strengthen transport research and policy development, modernise driver training centres, expand ICT-driven learning platforms, enhance road safety education and produce globally competitive transport professionals equipped to address emerging mobility, traffic management and road safety challenges.
He emphasised that the agreement is not merely a ceremonial document but an actionable framework for immediate implementation, capable of accelerating reforms, improving transport governance, strengthening institutional capacity and promoting innovation across Nigeria’s transport sector.
In his remarks, the Director-General of NITT, Dr. Bayero Farah, commended the Federal Road Safety Corps for its visionary leadership and unwavering commitment throughout the negotiation process.
He described the Corps’ dedication as instrumental to the successful conclusion of the agreement.
According to him, the central objective of the MoU is to ensure that transport education, professional training, research and technological development in Nigeria are aligned with global best practices, thereby producing world-class transport professionals capable of driving sustainable mobility, economic growth and national development.
The ceremony was witnessed by key stakeholders, including the Chief Executive Officer of AAI, Mr. Ahmed Abdelhafaz, and the Chairman of AAI, Mr. Ejike Njeze, among others. Their presence underscored the strategic significance of the partnership and reflected the growing confidence of both local and international stakeholders in Nigeria’s ongoing transport sector reforms and commitment to improving road safety, transport efficiency and institutional excellence.
