Gov. Otti Hosts National Safe School Team, Strengthens School Security in Abia
The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, on Wednesday received a delegation from the National Safe School Integrated Command and Intelligence System, led by Dr. Umannah Samuel Amadi, to discuss the safety of learning environments in the state.
He said the discussion was aimed at strategizing on how to strengthen protection for schools and ensure that every child in Abia learns in a safe and secure environment.
The Governor commended the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, for its dedication in complementing the state’s security efforts, especially in protecting lives and property across Abia.
According to the Governor, the NSCDC partnership has been invaluable.
Dr. Alex Otti said:
“Our administration has consistently allocated 20 percent of the State’s annual budget to education, covering infrastructure, teachers’ welfare, curriculum development, and other critical interventions.
Beyond building and renovating schools, we are ensuring they meet minimum security standards: fenced perimeters, proper gates, and trained security personnel.
We already operate a Command and Control Centre with emergency response number 112, which will soon go live, and we are integrating this system with the National Safe School initiative for effective coordination.
Security is paramount. With the support of the NSCDC and other partners, we will continue to safeguard the future of our children.”
