Rep Hopeful Oba Ezeafia Urges Enugu-Ukwu Women to Champion Peace, Unity, Strong Moral Values

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the Dunukofia/Njikoka/Anaocha Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Barr. Prince Chukwudi Oli, popularly known as Oba Ezeafia, has urged women in Enugu-Ukwu to remain ambassadors of peace, unity and moral values wherever they find themselves.
Oli made the call while addressing the annual August meeting of the women of Enugu-Ukwu Community at the Obu Umunri Hall over the weekend, where he joined the women in celebrating their unity, cultural heritage and enduring commitment to the development of their community.
According to the APGA House of Representatives hopeful, women have a critical role to play in building peaceful families and a stable society.
He therefore urged them to remain united and continue to promote peace, love, discipline and good moral values in their homes, churches and the wider community.
He emphasised that mothers occupy a strategic position in shaping the character, values and future of the younger generation, noting that the quality of leadership and citizenship produced by any society is significantly influenced by the values children acquire from their homes.
Oli said, “Women are not only the pillars of the family; they are also important agents of peace, unity and positive transformation in society. The values we teach our children and, more importantly, the examples we set before them will determine the kind of community and society we build.”
He urged the women to use their influence within their families to promote understanding, tolerance, mutual respect and genuine love, stressing that peaceful homes remain the foundation of a peaceful and progressive community.
The APGA candidate further encouraged the women to lead by example, noting that children learn not only from what their parents tell them but also from the conduct and character they witness at home.
He called on mothers to demonstrate honesty, discipline, kindness, respect, responsibility and love so that their children would grow into responsible citizens and worthy representatives of their families and communities.
Oli also appealed to the women to resist unnecessary divisions and strengthen the spirit of solidarity among themselves.
He maintained that a united and purposeful womenfolk possesses enormous capacity to influence families positively, promote social cohesion and contribute meaningfully to community development.
“Where women are united, families become stronger; where families are stronger, communities become more peaceful and progressive. I therefore appeal to you to continue supporting one another and to place the collective interest of Enugu-Ukwu above personal differences,” he said.
Speaking from a political perspective, Oli noted that sustainable community development requires collective participation, responsible leadership and a strong partnership between families, traditional institutions, community organisations and political representatives.
He stressed that political leadership should not be limited to the pursuit of elective positions but should be anchored on service, accountability, responsiveness and a genuine commitment to improving the welfare of the people.
“As we seek better representation and stronger communities, we must recognise that development is a collective responsibility. Political leaders must listen to the people, understand their needs and work with community stakeholders to advance projects and policies that improve lives,” he said.
Oli commended the women for sustaining the annual August meeting, describing the gathering as an important platform for strengthening relationships, preserving the community’s cultural heritage and addressing issues affecting families and community development.
He said occasions such as the annual August meeting demonstrate the strength of Enugu-Ukwu’s communal spirit and the important role women continue to play in preserving the identity, values and unity of the community.
Oba Ezeafia also encouraged the women to remain steadfast in upholding the values of unity, peace, love, respect, discipline and good morals.
He stressed that the future of every community begins with the values cultivated in the home, urging the women to continue using their influence to raise responsible children, strengthen families and contribute to a peaceful, united and prosperous Enugu-Ukwu community.
The gathering was also honoured by the presence of the traditional ruler of Enugu-Ukwu, His Royal Highness, Igwe Sir Ralph Ekpeh, whose presence added significance to the occasion and underscored the importance attached to the annual gathering by the community.
The traditional ruler commended Oba Ezeafia for identifying with the women and supporting the occasion.
He also expressed appreciation for Oli’s commitment to the people and his continued engagement with the community.
Igwe Ekpeh prayed for Oba Ezeafia and bestowed his Royal Blessing on him, wishing him success in his endeavours and greater opportunities to continue serving the people.
