Ojiako Rescues Uli Pupils from Dilapidated Classrooms, Builds New School Facilities

Pupils of Umuchima Community Primary School in Uli, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, have been subjected to the vicissitudes of life as a result of the deplorable condition of the school’s infrastructure before the intervention of Hon. Engr. Anayochukwu Charles Ojiako, Mayor and Chairman of Ihiala Local Government Area.

The children had been learning in very dilapidated classrooms with open roofs and corrugated walls on the verge of collapse. Whenever it rained, the pupils became completely drenched in their classrooms and shivered with cold because of the leaking roofs.

The pupils of Umuchima Community Primary School were equally not spared on scorching afternoons, as the heat of the sun descended on them because the dilapidated classrooms could not shelter them from the tormenting heat of hot weather conditions.

That was the pathetic situation narrated by the Headmistress, Amuka Amara Chinenye, who recounted the ordeals of the pupils. She told this journalist that the school was like a deserted area, with bushes everywhere, when she assumed duty as headmistress (HM) of the school.

She said the pupils used to study in the rain and under the scorching sun because the classrooms had no roofs to shelter them. According to her, it was a terrible experience for the pupils until she approached the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Engr. Anayochukwu Charles Ojiako, who intervened with the construction of two classroom blocks, fully furnished with electrical fittings and other necessary facilities.

Apart from the construction of the classrooms, the Headmistress equally disclosed that the Mayor provided a solar-powered borehole water facility for the school, which she said is functional and accessible to both pupils and teachers.

The HM also disclosed that the Local Government Chairman had assisted the school with educational materials, which were distributed to the pupils free of charge. She described his response and proactive steps as very timely.

She therefore expressed profound gratitude and appreciation to the Mayor for the interventions, saying that the pupils now have a conducive learning environment that will enhance their cognitive development.
