New Era in Logistics Education: UNIZIK Launches Chisco Institute Board

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has officially inaugurated the Board of the Chisco Institute of Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

This landmark event also featured the formal launch of a proficiency training programme for the university’s drivers.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Carol Arinze-Umobi, announced a newly established career progression pathway for drivers employed by the institution.

“With the new training programme and the knowledge they will acquire, university drivers can now advance beyond Grade Level 11 to Level 13,” she stated.

Professor Arinze-Umobi commended Chief Chidi Anyaegbu, founder of Chisco Group, for his generosity and vision.

She described the occasion as “historic” and pledged that the university would fully leverage the opportunities offered by the new institute.

In his address, Director of the Institute, Mr. Tochukwu Onyeyili, hailed the inauguration as a significant milestone for both the university and Nigeria’s logistics and supply chain sector.

“The inauguration of our Board today signifies the dawn of a new era,an era of impact, excellence, and sustainability,” Onyeyili remarked.

He highlighted several key accomplishments of the institute, including full accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), recognition under the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), and certification as a Skills Training Centre (STC) by the Federal Ministry of Education.

According to him, these accreditations position the institute as a leading centre for skills development and professional certification in Nigeria, with postgraduate programmes in Logistics and Supply Chain Management already in progress.

Onyeyili also praised the Vice Chancellor’s “visionary leadership” and paid tribute to Chief Anyaegbu, whom he described as “a beacon of inspiration for human capital development.”

He further acknowledged the support of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and various state commissioners for their collaborative efforts in enhancing road safety and professional training.

Delivering an emotional speech, Chief Chidi Anyaegbu who founded Chisco Transport Nigeria Ltd in 1981 recounted his humble beginnings as a truck pusher before building Chisco Group into a multinational conglomerate with interests spanning transportation, oil and gas, hospitality, courier services, and real estate.

“Today is my happiest day. This is the fulfilment of a 15-year dream,” he said.

“My success was not born of family wealth. It came through focus, determination, and a commitment to adding value to human lives. My life stands as an inspiration to younger generations who may currently be struggling to find their path.”

Chief Anyaegbu is a distinguished Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (International), London. He holds the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) and an honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from Penn State University, USA.

He has also participated in leadership and entrepreneurial programmes across the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Brazil.

The inauguration attracted prominent figures from the transport and logistics industry, including the Anambra State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mrs. Joyce Alexander, various state commissioners, members of the university management, and other distinguished guests.

As part of the day’s proceedings, the university also commissioned a solar power project aimed at promoting sustainability and energy efficiency on campus.
