QRC Onitsha 83: Alumni Hold Memorable 2025 Reunion in Nnewi

The tranquil Moonshine Residence, located in Uru Umudim, Nnewi, Anambra State, came alive recently as the 1983 graduating set of Queen of the Rosary College (QRC), Onitsha, held their 2025 reunion and convention.

Spanning four days,from Thursday, August 21 to Sunday, August 24—the event was a vibrant celebration of unity, philanthropy, recognition, wellness, entertainment, thanksgiving, and enduring sisterhood among women who have remained connected 42 years after their secondary school graduation.

In her welcome address, the association’s president, Prof. Viola Chinenye Udeze, commended members for their steadfast support and unwavering commitment.

She noted that the purpose of the reunion was to rekindle friendships and reinforce their ties to QRC, their alma mater.

“We are gathered today to reconnect, share and celebrate individual achievements, inspire one another, and reaffirm our collective commitment to building a better future for ourselves and humanity,” Prof. Udeze said.

A major highlight of the convention was the conferment of patronship awards on Engr. Ike Edward Amene, Igwe Gerald Mbamalu (Igwe Oranyelu I, Eze Ojoto III), and Prof. Victor Madubuko.

Dr. Ifeyinwa Madubuko also received special recognition for her philanthropy and unwavering support.

The group also paid courtesy visits to the Obi of Nnewi, HRH Igwe Dr. K.O.N. Orizu III, and to Igwe Gerald Mbamalu of Ojoto.

Demonstrating their commitment to service, the alumni visited the Motherless Babies Home in Nnewi, where they donated essential supplies.

A fitness session featuring jogging and aerobics was also included in the programme, promoting health and wellbeing.

In response to her award, Dr. Madubuko,who served as the senior prefect in 1983 described the honour as a “monumental treasure.”

She reflected on her journey from earning a Federal Government scholarship to study in Russia, to eventually relocating to the United States.

Lolo Ngozi Obi-Anyabolu, the pioneer president of the set, expressed deep satisfaction that her long-held vision of a united alumni body had become a reality. “Forty-two years later, we remain a formidable force, bound by love and communal living,” she added.

Ambassador Chinenye Nebolisa-Amene, chairperson of the Organising Committee, flew in from the United States to attend.

She praised members for their dedication and recalled the group’s past contributions to QRC, including the renovation and re-equipping of the school’s library.

Vice President Chief Uju Oduyemi and Secretary Dr. Ifeanyi Offor both expressed pride in the sustained unity of the group, describing the 2025 reunion as the most exciting and inspiring edition to date.

The convention featured a cultural display, a gala night, the ceremonial cutting of the reunion cake, and various award presentations. The event culminated with a thanksgiving Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Uru Umudim, during which members made generous donations.

Notable dignitaries in attendance included Prof. Tochukwu Victor; Barr. Obiamaka Ifediche Madubuko; Chairman of the Anambra Beach Soccer Association and CEO of Moonshine Residence, Mr. Mahmood Hadeja; Chairman of the Africa Beach Soccer Association, Dr. Emma Nsoedo, former Anambra State Commissioner for Youths and Sports; and representatives of Chief Innocent Chukwuma, CEO of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing, among others.

For many attendees, the reunion was far more than a gathering,it was a heartfelt reaffirmation of lifelong sisterhood. Members departed with cherished memories and a renewed commitment to reconvene in 2027 for an even grander celebration.
