As campaigns for the November 8, 2025, governorship election in Anambra State intensify, the President of Okpoko Youths in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Comrade Chukwuebuka Ite Igwebuike, has organised a football tournament aimed at boosting the re-election prospects of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
Comrade Ebuka explained that he sees the football tournament as a strategic tool to mobilize support for Governor Soludo in the upcoming election.
He emphasized the importance of reminding the youths of Okpoko about the governor’s achievements in their community and the need to support his return to office.
Speaking to journalists at the ongoing tournament held at Manus Schools, Anumudu, Okpoko, Ebuka noted that the event brings together youths residing across the Okpoko community. According to him, the choice of football was deliberate, as it is a sport many young people are passionate about.
“I considered it necessary to gather the youths through a football competition, which I know they enjoy. During the tournament, I’ll be holding meetings with them to ensure they don’t make the mistake of supporting any party other than APGA,” Ebuka stated.
He further explained that the core objective of the tournament is to foster unity among the youths and to initiate early grassroots campaigning for Governor Soludo’s re-election.
“Okpoko community has already resolved to work collectively for Soludo’s victory,” he added.
Beyond politics, Ebuka highlighted the social impact of the tournament, stating that it serves as a constructive engagement for the youths.
“One of the key aspects of this tournament is to keep our youths positively engaged. Rather than resorting to social vices due to idleness, they can channel their energy into sports. Right now, football is the central rallying point for our young people. It speaks their language more than anything else.”he stated.
He also emphasized the achievements of his leadership, claiming that his administration has ushered in a period of peace and transformation in the community.
“Today, no youth in Okpoko is idle. Virtually all of them are engaged in meaningful activities, and we’re seeing positive results across the board,” Ebuka declared.
