Anambra Police Urge Students to Prioritise Safety,Security Awareness
The Anambra State Police Command has called on Nigerian students and school authorities to prioritise school safety, personal security awareness, and proactive crime prevention as part of broader efforts to strengthen community policing across the state.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police said the engagement forms part of its ongoing community policing and crime-prevention strategy aimed at safeguarding educational institutions.
According to the statement, the Command recently held an interactive security session with students and school authorities to reinforce awareness on safety and responsible citizenship.
During the engagement, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Operations Department, ACP Harrison Oruru, PSC, addressed students of Sacred Heart Academy, Ifite-Ogwari, on the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, bullying, cybercrime, and other emerging social vices threatening young people.
ACP Oruru emphasised the importance of vigilance, responsible conduct, and the prompt reporting of suspicious activities within and around school premises.
He noted that early detection and cooperation with security agencies remain critical to preventing crime and maintaining safe learning environments.
The Police Command encouraged students to build constructive relationships with law enforcement agencies, stressing that trust and collaboration between young people and the police are essential to effective community policing.
The Command also reassured the students and school authorities of its readiness to respond swiftly to distress calls and security concerns affecting educational institutions.
Furthermore, the police urged school administrators to strengthen internal security mechanisms, including access control, monitoring systems, and structured communication channels with security agencies.
It emphasised that sustained collaboration between schools, communities, and law enforcement authorities is necessary to proactively address potential threats.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Command stated that it remains resolute in safeguarding schools across Anambra State and in supporting an enabling, secure environment conducive to academic excellence and youth development.
